Indians have practiced traditional handloom weaving for generations. Villagers often own a loom at home, allowing them to weave fabrics and scarves for their friends and family, giving them the means to gain a degree of financial independence. Before making their fabrics, the weaver sketches a design that requires precise information on the number of threads to use for each part of the design, as well as the color palette. Jamini shares her sense of design with master artisans who use their expertise to create unique pieces. It is a two-way learning and sharing process that allows both parties to contribute to the preservation of traditional art and crafts.
